Learning Parts Of a Rug Design


To understand what actual rug theory is! you must know the different parts of a historical rug. As shown in the figure there are six different parts of a basic rug, described below:

Field: The field is the major background of the rug, inside all the boarders.
Main Boarder: The main boarder is the major boarder of the rug. It is the widest boarder.
Guard Border: The Guard Borders are the simple and narrow decorative designs flanking the main border.
Medallion: The medallion is the round, oval, or polygonal design element that sometimes occupies the center of the field. It gives a cool and a stunning look to the overall design of the rug. Corner Brackets: Corner brackets or spandrels are designs which sometimes fill the corners of the field.
