New Summer Styles for your room's rugs

Color can set the entire mood for a space and is usually the first criteria for any rug shopper. Lighter shades can brighten a space and give it a more open feel, and by contrast, darker shades can create a more intimate atmosphere. Additionally, choosing the right color might involve finding a shade that complements a fabric or wall treatment.

During the summer season, you want to make your colors more light and airy. It's already hot outside, so why not give your apartment, studio, house or condo the appearance of a more cool atmosphere?

Use lighter blues, some canary yellows or perhaps even a rose to help give your room a lighter, more bright look. Stay away from burgundy, black or dark navy for the time being - you want your space to be inviting and open - not dark, not when it's 90 plus degrees outside.

You also want to use lighter materialed rugs too - (i.e. "thinner"). They won't capture as much heat as a thick shag rug might or a deep traditional rug would, thin is in when it comes to the heat and lazier months.

You want to rotate your room(s) rugs as often as you change the batteries in your home's smoke alarms (no, really, you need to change those every once in a while too) so that way your room has a fresh look and your rugs last longer, also helps keep everything more clean too. Have a great summer!

Protecting your rug from the sun

Rugs are often the last item of the room to be thought of. After all, they lie on the floor that we all walk on, when was the last time that you looked down at your rug lovingly and cooed about that time you walked on it last?

Rugs really are the one of the better definers of your room(s). If you want a jungle themed room, a leopard patterned rug is your first choice, not a traditional red rug; if you are looking to increase the elegance of your dining room, you don't buy an Andy Warhol styled rug with pastels.

But homeowners don't typically think of rugs until something happens. A stain, a rip or a complete change of design are usually the reasons - Rugs need to be thought of first and then walked on, not the other way around.

With that said, you need to learn how to protect your area rug from the sun so as to increase it's lifespan and ensure that your investment lasts longer. Some rugs are colorfasted, especially a handmade or Persian rug, but others are not, especially if you bought it from a department store or from Aunt May's friend in the school parking lot - not all rugs are created equal.

You can protect your rug(s) from the sun with a few simple steps:

1.) turn your rugs around every so often - like every two months, especially if there is a direct sunbeam coming from the window on only part of the rug

2.) alternate rugs - switch them around from room to room every six months to keep them breathing and away from direct sunlight

3.) take them outside and beat them to keep them looking fresh. Vaccuuming doesnt' always do the trick.

The idea is to keep them moving and away from direct sunlight so they aren't exposed for any real length of time. Keep them moving around, give them a little care and they'll last a much longer time.

Making Use of Smaller Living Space

It’s a really cozy and warm experience if you have a small home or apartment. Many people have small homes, most people live in a small apartment because they can’t afford a bigger one. But there are many people also choose a small apartment or home just because they're tired of organizing and taking care of a larger place and want to reduce the size of their residence to get a more cozy and relaxing experience.

Here are a few tips and tricks which may help you out while planning the interior décor of your small residence. Always remember that you can adapt techniques that can help you make small places look much bigger and airy and these tips will help you with them:

1. The color of the walls plays a vital role in the overall look of any room. If you have small space always select soft tones of blues and greens or simply off white. Light and soft colors will make the place look much more spacious.

2. Be sure that any furniture does not block walkways such as the lobby or an entrance. If the sofa, couch or ottoman blocks the entrance or one room’s view from the other room it will make the space feel crowded and thus much smaller.

3. If you have furniture that is pretty much in contrast with the walls and the rugs that would be best. Because pairing up colors and making different color combinations makes the place look more occupied and crowded.

4. If you hang a very large mirror on one of the walls it will reflect the whole room and this makes the room look more spacious.

5. The lighting effects in your room should be perfectly in contrast with your rugs and walls, Never choose too dull or dim light as it makes the room look very dull and small. Bright lights on the other had added a cool touch to small rooms. Especially if you have a large mirror in your room.

Rugsale.com has a complete variety of rugs in all different sizes, colors and designs that can suite your small rooms efficiently and effectively.

How to Protect your Rug from the Sun

As we welcome the summer and the wonderful rays of the sun, we should also be prepared for the effects that it can do to our precious rugs. Sun fading on a rug is not impossible to correct, but is very difficult. In this case, there is only prevention, and a costly cure. When you purchase a new rug or when you’re placing a rug in your home, you should also be aware of how the light from your windows can affect the rug. Be particular about skylights as well. You can also try to observe how the light falls and streams through you window at different times during the day.

When a rug fades unevenly, the color is impossible to even out. Keep your rug out of direct sunlight, if possible. The rays of the sun damage by causing the rug to fade where the light hits it. Consider window tints that can block out most of the sun’s harmful rays.

Antique rugs that were made with natural substances are especially susceptible to sun fading. Chemically washed rugs will still show some fading over time as well. Rug areas that are under direct sunlight will fade and look uneven compared to the other parts of the rug.

So what can you do to prevent your rug from fading? Frequently rotate your rug especially when it’s under direct sunlight. Or rotate it at least once a month. The rug will tend to fade but the color will at least be uniform. If the rug is not under direct sunlight, you can rotate it four times in a year or every season. If your valuable rug is inside a rarely used room, you can close the curtains and preserve the original colors. Choosing a Perfect Eco Friendly Rug

Rugs are the most important part of the interior décor of your room. They are a great way to add personality and color to any room. There are environmental concerns associated with rugs and their creation, as discussed in the previous post, because of these concerns eco-friendly rugs are now available. Here are some tips for you to keep in mind while choosing a perfect eco-friendly rug for your room.

1.Buy rugs which are made from natural fibers. Resource-intensive products such as petroleum by-products should be avoided. The backing should also be made from natural fibers, and environment friendly adhesives.

2.Check out the chemicals with which the rug has been treated. The chemicals which are used to treat rugs to make them stain resistant and more durable also cause environmental damage. The less chemicals the rug is treated with, the more eco-friendly it is.

3.Look for the recycle logo; choose companies which recycle old rugs to manufacture new ones but keeping chemical treatment in consideration. Rugs which are recycled are also helpful for a clean environment.

4.Never compromise with design and décor of your room. Find an eco-friendly rug which fits your room the best, that’s where Rugsale.com comes in with a vast variety of eco-friendly rugs.

Eco Friendly Rugs

If you need to change your rugs, why not choose materials that are safe for your health and the planet.
According to a general study and analysis by EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) indoor pollutant levels can be more than two to five times greater than they are outside. If you get a new rug its composition, coloring and manufacturing goes through a number of chemical and mechanical processes. During the chemical processes the rug is treated with a large number of chemicals including carcinogens like formaldehyde and benzene. These compounds generally have a characteristic smell which you can experience once you get a new rug. This smell is usually due to volatile organic compounds which can easily evaporate into air. Such chemicals are certainly dangerous for you and your family. As you certainly wouldn’t prefer to compromise the interior décor of your room there is a specific solutions to the problem.

Eco friendly rugs are designed and manufactured in such a way that you get the same stylish and classy interior décor but there are no dangerous chemicals involved! Usually eco friendly rugs are made from natural fibers with very little or no chemical treatment involved. Woven wool, natural sisals, jutes, and sea grass are some of the common natural materials used while making such rugs. Hundred percent woolen carpets made with undyed or vegetable-dyed yarn are also included in this category. A special kind of natural glue known as natural latex (extracted from rubber plant) is also used which make such rugs a complete natural product.
Rugsale.com has variety of eco friendly rugs manufactured from natural materials which are healthy and are considered good for the environment. The good thing about our vast collection is that you can find the same striking and exotic variety as usual rugs at some really great values as well.
