Fall is the time for Rugs - COLOR, COMFORT and PRICE

Now that the kids are back in school and the pool is almost closed, it's time to start looking around your home for those changes you've been meaning to do for the last several months.

COLOR & STYLE CHANGE:
Rugs are a big part of that change. Rugs will change the look of the room before any paint or wallpaper gets near your home and boy, is it faster. Rugs can make a room look darker, brighter, bigger and smaller with just one quick switch of one rug to another. Plus, should you want to make the feel of your room(s) a little different, your best and fastest answer is an area rug. Contemporary rugs give a unique feel for a room - they offer styles and shapes that are not usually seen, definitely preferable if you are trying to update a room. Traditional rugs are great for a more formal feel - they have more distinct browns, burgundies and blacks that will give your room a sophisticated shine.

COMFORT
In another few weeks, you're going to remember why you wanted to change the rugs last year - in many places, such as New York City and Chicago, the temperature starts to drop, quickly and those cold floors are not a pleasant feeling. It's tough to get ready for the holidays when your feet are freezing on the floor. A pad is a great way to help here too - it makes the rug thicker and absorbs heat better, keeping you and your home warmer. A non skid pad is good for keeping the rug from moving, but a premium pad will be warmer and safer.

Now is the time too to switch out thinner rugs for thicker ones - since we are talking about staying warm now. Shag rugs are perfect for this. Thick and soft and warm, shag rugs are ideal for keeping the cold floors away from your slowly-awakening feet.

PRICE
Rugs don't have to be expensive to be good. Brand names such as Momeni, Nourison and Oriental Weavers are great choices for high quality rugs, but you can save even more with brands such as TransOcean or Radici. The best value are often in the Clearance Section  - they are one-of-a-kind items, but they are often marked down very low, like 50% or more, just to sell them off and make space for other items.

Be sure to hunt around for good coupon codes too. Often these codes will take an additional discount off the final price of the rug and padding you might be buying. Some manufacturers aren't very fond of these codes and will deny them before the final sale is made, but they are still worth trying to see if you can get the discount or not.

Rugs are often considered "static" in a room, but they really should be considered a dynamic item. If you change items on your walls, if you like putting in blankets or switching pillows or even consider changing the paint color, then rugs should also be in on your mind. Be sure to remember, the floor is one of the first things that people see when they enter the room.
